Human & Elephant Conflict Management
Safe Elephant Passage: NHO Supports Forest Department & Community

In the lush landscapes of Siliguri and surrounding areas, the delicate balance between human habitats and wildlife faces constant challenges. The Nature Help Organisation (NHO) is at the forefront of addressing these challenges, particularly the pressing issue of human-elephant conflict. As guardians of the environment, NHO collaborates with the Forest Department to ensure the safety of both communities and elephants by guiding these majestic creatures back to their natural habitats.
How We Make a Difference:
- Tracking and Understanding Elephant Movements: NHO, alongside the Forest Department, meticulously tracks elephant movements to identify migration routes and high-conflict zones. This data helps in anticipating elephant movements and planning interventions proactively.
- Creating and Maintaining Safe Corridors: Our team works tirelessly to establish and preserve safe passageways for elephants, ensuring they can migrate without disrupting human settlements or endangering themselves.
- Non-Invasive Guiding Techniques: Using sound signals, light barriers, and other non-invasive methods, we assist the Forest Department in gently steering elephants back into forested areas without causing them distress.

- Conflict Resolution and Community Engagement: When human-elephant conflicts arise, NHO steps in to mediate and address the situation. Our awareness programs educate local communities on peaceful coexistence, minimizing panic, and fostering empathy for wildlife.
- Promoting Conservation Awareness: We conduct workshops, school programs, and community meetings to inform people about the ecological importance of elephants, the consequences of habitat encroachment, and the need for sustainable practices.
Our Goals:
- Protect Elephant Populations and Habitats: By preserving migration routes and creating safe corridors, we help elephants thrive in their natural environment.
- Reduce Human-Elephant Conflict: Through proactive measures and community education, we strive to minimize conflicts, ensuring safety for both humans and wildlife.
- Support Forest Department Initiatives: Our collaboration enhances the Forest Department’s efforts in wildlife conservation, leveraging our resources and expertise to make a meaningful impact.
